Dr. Neder must be one of the few successful individualists remaining
who is ardently
true to what he considers important without regard to compromise. It
appears to be a
lifelong trait demonstrated by sequential obsessive foci such as participating
in the
Nevada State Honor Band at 13, obtaining State ranking in Idaho for
tennis at 15,
University level music participation at 16, US Naval license for operating
an S1W
nuclear power plant at 19, a nuclear refueling specialist at 21, open
class racquetball
player and various honors degrees including a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
He has had
numerous actual careers along the way that include carpentry, auto-body
work,
bartending, security, chemical research, stained glass production and
being a graduate
fellow in statistics and research design. He practiced as a Licensed
Clinical Psychologist
in private practice for 10 years achieving a national reputation for
working with and
speaking about extremely difficult patients. At the same time he began
working glass
artistically . . . mostly to survive the rigors of his clinical practice.
The one consistent element of Dr. Neder's life is his commitment to
God. He became a
Christian shortly after his naval career ended and is presently only
a few credits away
from earning a Masters degree in Theology. In addition to church participation
he is
currently writing a book for the Christian marketplace.
His art is widely recognized by galleries, merchants and collectors
all over the world for
its scale, vibrancy and fluidity. What is not commonly known is that
he produces these
works solo - nearly unheard of in the glass community for pieces this
size. In fact he
possesses a sort of folklore status among those artists who have watched
him work. He
has designed and fabricated the tools, technology, method and style
to produce these
genuinely unique works of art. The difference is obvious since the
work is elementally
consistent because he is the only one involved in its production from
start to finish. Short
of Michelangelo or daVinci few other artists can make that claim and
no other glass
artist can for works of this scale.
He believes that the glass is simply a medium to produce the "look at
me" response he
tries to build into every piece he creates. "Quality work always stands
out no matter if it
is Psychology, glass, wood, music or one's relationship with God, you
may not know why
but nonetheless it grabs your attention . . . like it or not." |
